How to use External Displays with macOS
The docks at Proximity's Barton office use a technology called 'DisplayLink' to connect your laptop to the external display and other devices. This software is not installed by default on macOS, so as a once off it will need to be installed manually for personal mac devices:
- Download the DisplayLink macOS software from DisplayLink macOS Software for Downloads Section | Synaptics
- Run the downloaded file
- Introduction > click Continue
- Licence > click Continue, then Agree
- Destination Select > click Continue
- Installation Type > click Install
- Type your user's password and click 'Install'
- Summary > click Done
- You will receive a prompt to allow DisplayLink to record your screen. Click on Allow as this is part of allowing the external display to work.
- You should now see a DisplayLink icon in the top-right corner of your screen. If this does not appear, please navigate to Finder > Applications and run DisplayLink Manager
- Click on the icon to open its settings. We recommend ensuring 'Launch automatically after login' is ticked to ensure the software is always running.
- Now, plug your mac into a dock and the external display should work.
